Why bare metal buildings struggle in the Valley.

Steel moves heat fast. In a Bakersfield summer the roof panels of an uninsulated shop turn the inside into an oven, and on cold, damp nights warm air inside meets cold steel and condenses, so it drips on equipment, feed and stock and starts rust at the laps and fasteners. A.S.I. sprays closed-cell foam straight onto the panels and framing, which insulates, air-seals and keeps that moist air off the steel.

Spray foam vs. fiberglass blanket on a metal building

Most metal buildings come with vinyl-faced fiberglass blanket draped over the purlins. It compresses wherever it is pinched by the framing, the facing tears, and every gap is a place for warm air to reach the steel. Over a few years that shows up as sagging, staining and condensation. Closed-cell spray foam bonds directly to the panel and the framing. It fills the ribs and laps, covers fasteners, and forms one continuous layer with no seams to leak. Because it is a vapor retarder at normal thicknesses, it stops the condensation that blanket insulation lets through, and because it is rigid it stiffens the panels and quiets rain and hail noise. On a retrofit we remove failed blanket first, so the foam bonds to clean metal rather than to the problem.

How a metal building job runs.

Measured, protected, sprayed and cleaned up.

Walk & measure

Panel profile, roof and wall area, rust, leaks and what needs protecting.

Prep & protect

Equipment covered or moved, surfaces cleaned so the foam bonds to bare steel.

Spray

Closed-cell foam to the agreed thickness across roof deck and walls.

Coat & clean up

Code-required barrier coating where it applies, then a clean site.

What a metal building job involves

We start by walking the building: the panel profile, roof and wall area, any rust or leaks that need attention first, and what is inside that has to be protected. Equipment, vehicles and stored goods are covered or moved, and surfaces are cleaned so the foam bonds. The roof deck and walls are sprayed to the thickness agreed in the quote. Where the building is occupied or used for storage, code may require a thermal or ignition barrier over the foam; the building code has specific allowances for metal panel buildings, and we tell you which apply to yours. Then the site is cleaned and the building goes back to work. We insulate shops, ag buildings and warehouses across Kern County and the Central Valley, from Bakersfield, Shafter and Wasco to Delano, Arvin and Tehachapi, and our portfolio includes metal buildings in Reedley and at Royal Palms.

What metal building insulation costs

Cost follows the square footage of roof and walls, the foam thickness, the panel profile, the height and access, and whether old blanket has to come out first. A shop that only needs condensation and noise control needs less foam than a conditioned workspace or a cold room, so the use of the building drives the price as much as its size. We give you a free written quote with the area, thickness and any coating spelled out, and we can price options side by side if you are weighing condensation control against full conditioning.

Metal building insulation questions.

What shop owners, growers and facility managers ask first.

How thick should spray foam be on a metal building?

It depends on what the building is for. A shop that only needs condensation and noise control needs less than a conditioned workspace or a cold room. We size the thickness to the use and the R-value you want, and put it in the quote.

Will spray foam stop condensation on my metal roof?

Yes, that is one of the main reasons to use closed-cell foam on metal. It keeps warm, moist air from reaching the cold steel, which is where the dripping comes from.

Can you spray over the existing fiberglass blanket?

No. Foam needs to bond to the panel. We remove the old blanket first, which also gets rid of anything that has been hiding in it.

Does spray foam make a metal building quieter?

Noticeably. Foam dampens the panels, so rain and hail sound far less like a drum, and it cuts outside noise.

Do I need a coating over the foam?

Often, yes. Building code requires a thermal or ignition barrier over foam in many occupied or storage uses, with specific allowances for metal panel buildings. We tell you what applies before the job starts.

Can you work around equipment or livestock?

Yes. We plan the job around what has to stay in the building, protect it, and phase the work when needed.

How long does a metal building take?

Most shops and barns are done in a few days, depending on size and access. We give you the schedule with the quote.

Do you insulate new metal buildings too?

Yes. We work with builders and erectors on new buildings as well as retrofitting existing ones.
