Mold remediation, not just mold cleaning.

Spraying a stain and painting over it does not remediate mold. The growth has to be contained so spores do not spread through the building, the damaged material has to come out, what remains has to be cleaned, and the moisture that caused it has to stop. That is containment work, and it is what an abatement contractor does every day. A.S.I. remediates mold in commercial and industrial buildings, schools, ag facilities and homes across Bakersfield and Central California.

Mold removal vs. mold remediation

Mold removal usually means cleaning what you can see. Mold remediation means dealing with the whole problem: finding how far the growth goes, containing the area, removing the materials that cannot be cleaned, cleaning the rest with HEPA equipment, and fixing the moisture so it does not come back. That is also what the California Department of Public Health recommends. Its guidance is to find and fix the water source, dry or remove damp materials quickly, and clean or remove mold as rapidly and safely as possible. It specifically recommends against relying on air sampling to decide whether there is a problem: visible mold, dampness or a musty odor is enough. California has no mold-specific contractor license, which is why it matters who you hire. We follow the industry's remediation standard, IICRC S520, and we bring the containment, negative-air equipment and certified crews of an asbestos abatement contractor to every mold job.

What causes mold in Kern County buildings

Bakersfield is dry, but its buildings make their own water. Evaporative coolers, HVAC condensate lines running through hot attics, roof leaks during winter storms, plumbing leaks inside walls and poorly vented crawl spaces are where we find most of it. Commercial and industrial buildings add their own sources: condensation on uninsulated metal roofs, sweating chilled-water and refrigerant lines, cold storage walls and packing houses, and pipe insulation that has been soaked and never dried. Those are places restoration franchises rarely work and where we work all the time, because we are also the insulation contractor who fixes the condensation once the mold is gone. For landlords, visible mold has been a substandard housing condition under California law since 2016, so tenant complaints need a real fix, not a coat of paint.

Mold in older buildings: check for asbestos first

Water-damaged drywall, ceiling tile, flooring and pipe insulation in a building from 1980 or earlier may also contain asbestos. A mold contractor who tears it out without knowing can turn a mold job into an asbestos release. We are a licensed asbestos abatement contractor, so we check before demolition, arrange testing when it is needed, and handle both under the right procedures. One crew, one plan, no surprises halfway through. Mold remediation is priced by the size of the affected area, what has to be removed, how much containment the space needs and whether repairs are part of the job. We inspect first and give you a written scope and a free estimate.

Mold remediation questions.

What property owners and managers ask first.

How much does mold remediation cost in Bakersfield?

It depends on the size of the affected area, what has to be removed, how much containment is needed and whether repairs follow. A small bathroom or closet is a short job; a crawl space or a commercial space is larger. We inspect and give you a free written estimate.

What is the difference between mold removal and mold remediation?

Removal usually means cleaning visible growth. Remediation contains the area, removes damaged materials, cleans what remains and fixes the moisture source so it does not return.

Does insurance cover mold remediation in California?

It depends on your policy and on the cause. Mold from a sudden, covered water event is often covered; mold from a long-term leak or maintenance issue often is not. We document the job so you have what your adjuster asks for.

Do I need mold testing before remediation?

Usually not. California's public health guidance says visible mold, dampness or a musty smell is reason enough to act. Testing is useful for clearance, for legal or tenant documentation, or when mold is suspected but hidden.

Can you remediate without shutting down my business?

Usually, yes. Containment isolates the work area, and we schedule around operations, after hours or in phases.

Should black mold always be removed by a professional?

The color does not tell you much; any significant growth should be handled with containment so it does not spread. Small surface spots on hard materials can often be cleaned; anything larger, or in walls, ducts or insulation, needs a professional.

What if the moldy material also contains asbestos?

That is common in older buildings. We are a licensed asbestos abatement contractor, so we test first and remove both under the right procedures.

Do you handle residential mold?

Yes. We remediate mold in homes, attics and crawl spaces as well as commercial and industrial buildings.
